Observe, Observe, Listen and Act..

We have been observing and listening to our land for over 50 years and continue to learn to understand its needs rather than try and force our own needs.

Our aim is to be working at being at the frontier, not forcing beyond, all the while recognising limits of people, soil and climate. Independent government research into our model has us at the point of inflection on the pareto line – it is the agricultural model most resilient to climate change.

We run Angus / Bos indicus cross cattle to graze grass and cropping land – in doing this we utilise the growth and decay cycle for increasing soil health, enhancing microbial activity leading to more sequestered carbon and nutritious grassfed beef. Technology ranging from remote satellite sensing of grass and tree cover through in-paddock animal weighing to remote water monitoring is all integrated into our smartphones allowing us to keep abreast of change as it happens wherever we are. Shrubby regrowth and grass is actively managed with mindful use of tractors and machinery and when appropriate cool fire is also utilised.

Our big aim is to “Keep the paddock in the paddock”… so we stabilise the soil with good grass and ground cover to minimise erosion.

Observe, Observe, Listen and Act…then continue to repeat as Nature is always changing!

Peter and Nikki have been great supporters of the AFI and we have always highly valued their input

The purpose if AFI is to build the evidence base for policy which advances Australian agriculture and Peter and Nikki’s scientific, pragmatic, and passionate understanding of agriculture is always a great source of information.
